Beeldend Boek Biënnale

De Beeldend Boek Biënnale is een tweejaarlijkse manifestatie, gericht op jong en oud, waarbij de elkaar versterkende combinatie ‘woord’ en ‘beeld’ steevast het uitgangspunt vormt.

De eerste editie van de Beeldend Boek Biënnale is gewijd aan één van de belangrijkste illustratoren van Nederland: Thé Tjong-Khing (1933). Zijn prachtige, avontuurlijke, sprookjesachtige en soms griezelige tekeningen prikkelen de verbeelding van jong en oud. Ze zitten bomvol onverwachte details, trefzekere lijnen, emoties, beweging en vaak ook grapjes.

Het werk van Thé kent een grote diversiteit: van de strakke zwart-wit strips Arman & Ilva uit zijn vroege carrière tot de gedetailleerde zoekplaten in het meer recente Waar is de taart?  Ook tekende hij voor de reeks Vos en Haas.
Juist omdat hij striptekenaar was, vroeg Miep Diekmann hem voor het illustreren van haar boek Total loss, weet je wel. Sindsdien illustreerde hij vele kinderboeken van o.a. Guus Kuijer, Els Pelgrom, Sylvia Vanden Heede en Dolf Verroen.

De tentoonstelling toont originele tekeningen rond de thema’s ‘Dieren op Avontuur’, ‘Kunst en Muziek’, ‘Strips’, ‘Vertellingen’ en -aansluitend bij het thema van de Kinderboekenweek-  ‘Griezelen’.

Gelijktijdig aan Beeldend Boek Biënnale wordt in het SCHUNCK Museum de tentoonstelling Now is a different back then getoond. Je entreeticket van €6,- is geldig voor een bezoek aan beide tentoonstellingen.

Begeleidend programma

• 4 t/m 15 oktober: Kinderboekenweek. Vol griezelende activitetien en rondleidingen door de tentoonstelling
• 15 oktober: Boek!e Woek!e festival
• 24 oktober: lezing Thé Tjong Khing
• 24 september / 29 oktober / 26 november: (gratis) zondagsrondleiding.
• 14 t/m 22 oktober: Museumkidsweek. Knutselen en speuren in het museum.

The first edition of the Beeldende Boek Biënnale is dedicated to one of the most important illustrators of the Netherlands: Thé Tjong-Khing (1933). His beautiful, adventurous, fairy-like and sometimes creepy drawings stimulate the imagination of young and old. They are packed with unexpected details, accurate lines, emotions, movement and often jokes too.

The work of Thé has a great diversity: from the tight black and white comics Arman & Ilva, in his early career, to the more detailed picture puzzles in his recent work Waar is de taart? (Where is the cake?). He also illustrated for the famous Dutch children’s book series Vos en Haas.
Because he was a cartoonist, Miep Diekmann asked him to illustrate her book Total loss, weet je. Since then he has illustrated many children’s books by, among others, Guus Kuijer, Els Pelgrom, Sylvia Vanden Heede and Dolf Verroen.

The exhibition shows original drawings about the themes ‘Animals’, ‘Art and Music’, ‘Comics’, ‘Tales’ and -the connection to the theme of the Children’s Bookweek ‘Griezelen’, which can be translated as: getting the creeps.

The exhibition will be officially opened on September 16th at 15.30 by the Mayor of Heerlen, Ralf Krewinkel, and Sien Winthagen child-mayor of Heerlen.
