From April 2018, SCHUNCK is putting on a lively new programme of presentations. In these TALKS, two guest-speakers with contrasting backgrounds will enter into a dialogue about their role as artist, writer, expert, politician or whatever, and relate this to current affairs.
Each TALK seeks out the boundaries of the diverse disciplines, the differing opinions and – most of all – between the speakers and the audience. Architect Alexander Römer (b. 1972, Berlin) and Frank Havermans (b. 1967, Breda) kick off this series with a topic close to both their hearts: how do you activate public space with installation art?
Alexander Römer – ConstructLab is a forum for participative design and construction projects. In 2005 he started working with, amongst others, the Paris-based collective of EXYZT on a submission for the 2006 Venice Biennial. ConstructLab works as a network of designers, builders, architects, photographers, graphic designers, gardeners and chefs, who initiate and perform projects collectively from Mons (Belgian capital of culture in 2015) to Montreal (Mont Réel in Canada) and Genk (the Arch in 2017)
Frank Havermans is a visual artist and designer focusing on the relationship with context. Each project can be thought of as a proposition for social change. His interventions in public spaces create an unusual spatial and aesthetic experience which provokes an engrossing dialogue with the surroundings. Havermans’ mainly futuristic, alienating constructions quite literally enrich the streetscape. His work outside the Netherlands has been on display at the Architecture Biennial in São Paulo, the 15th architecture biennial of Venice and in Hong Kong, Vienna, Jakarta, Toronto, Chongqing, etc.

The Transitional publication is available for purchase at the SCHUNCK Shop and during the SCHUNCK TALK on the 17th of April.
