The 'Uit je dak' exhibition in SCHUNCK aims to show what our rooftop landscape may look like in 2040: greener, more sustainable and offering a new perspective on the city.
The Uit je dak exhibition shows the inspirational findings of an international design competition for architects and designers, which SCHUNCK organised in 2019. Contestants were tasked with coming up with ideas for transforming the hitherto unharnessed potential of the drab and dreary rooftops in Heerlen into a sustainable, climate-neutral urban setting.
A broad kaleidoscope of topics (from climate, biodiversity, re-use & recycling, entrepreneurship, urban farming, urban gardening to alternative energy and a reduction in built materials) will show where this unharnessed potential lies.
The Heerlen Rooftop Project entails a long-term project. In 2019, SCHUNCK initiated a ‘roof scan’ and an international design competition for seven roofs in Heerlen.
53 bona fide entries were submitted for the competition, from architects and design agencies from twelve different countries. Adjudication of these entries took place in two phases.
