A word adrift: the generation that saw the transition from the authoritarian order of centuries to the egalitarian mass culture

A Catholic boy from Rotterdam who went into art, was captured by the Germans and fled to Limburg with his young bride. The story of Aad de Haas is primarily that of a young, committed artist who lived in a turbulent time. Ko van Dun provides this lecture in Dutch. It is also the story of the generation that saw the transition from the authoritarian order of centuries to the egalitarian mass culture. Aad de Haas shows like no other how much personal inner struggle this involved. Faith and church, war and suffering, love and sex, beauty and expressiveness, these are the main themes of a unique oeuvre.
Ko van Dun portrays it and places the story of Aad de Haas in the broader perspective of a world adrift.

Aad de Haas - 100th anniversary

On December 30, 2020, Aad de Haas, the striking, non-conformist Limburg artist with Rotterdam roots, would have turned 100 years old. To honor the artist, SCHUNCK Museum in Heerlen, Limburgs Museum in Venlo and Chabot Museum in Rotterdam are organizing a relay of exhibitions and programming to illuminate Aad de Haas and his work from different perspectives.
