Annual report 2018

Some highlights:

  • The visitor numbers for the SCHUNCK locations (Glass Palace, Hoensbroek, Heerlerbaan, Heerlerheide) are higher than in 2017. In 2017, SCHUNCK received 230,000 people, in 2018 there will now be 241,000. This increase of 11,000 visitors can be explained, among other things, by the changing function of the library. The library is being visited by more and more people to study, attend a workshop, meet each other or read a newspaper or magazine. The activities in the field of reading promotion, basic skills and social connection (including the Language Cafés, meetings such as Klik en Tik and Uur van de Buurt) attracted more participants.
  • SCHUNCK can also be found more and more with neighborhood-oriented activities in the neighborhoods of Heerlen. The museum was delighted by a 8% increase in visitors to almost 43,000 people in 2018. The number of SCHUNCK Music and Dance School students fell by 7% and is expected to stabilize around the current number. In addition, SCHUNCK reached nearly 8,000 pupils in primary schools with music education in the context of Door! (and Impulse control). In total, SCHUNCK had more than 300,000 buyers of products and services, that is, visitors and participants in educational activities at home and / or at primary and secondary schools in Parkstad.
  • The year was largely dominated by preparations for the now successfully completed exhibition on Jean Michel Basquiat and the opening with HMK Máxima at the end of January 2019.
