From progressive fashion house to multidisciplinary cultural institute
In the high-profile Glaspaleis, you used to visit the Schunck fashion house. An innovative company started in times of crisis (1933) by Peter Schunck. It was his wish to match the appearance of the building with the progressive business, so the help of architect Frits Peutz was enlisted.
Today SCHUNCK is no longer a fashion house, but a multidisciplinary cultural institute that honours the name of the Schunck family. SCHUNCK consists of a library, music and dance school and museum with a cultural education team interwoven into it. This combination of disciplines provides a broad programme of activities for the residents of Heerlen and beyond. Take a look at our agenda and be welcome!
The Glaspaleis is now on the International Union of Architects' list of 1,000 most important buildings of the 20th century.
