Digital accessibility

We think it is important that SCHUNCK is accessible to everyone. Also for visitors with disabilities, think of people in wheelchairs, blind or visually impaired. Because the information on the Internet has become an integral part of daily life, we want to be accessible to everyone online as well.

We are continuously working to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA, as required under the European Accessibility Act (EAA).

Current accessibility status

A: fully meets the criteria and has an accessibility statement
B: partially meets the criteria and has an accessibility statement
C: no accessibility statement, but an assessment less than 3 years old is available
D: no accessibility statement, but an assessment is planned within 6 months
E: no accessibility statement and no assessment is planned within 6 months

At present, our website partially meets the WCAG 2.1 AA criteria. There are some accessibility issues that we aim to resolve in the near future.

Our efforts and improvements

We have taken the following steps:

  • Conducted an initial accessibility audit;
  • Identified the most critical accessibility issues and resolved some of them;
  • Developed a multi-year improvement plan (see below).

Known accessibility issues

Despite our efforts, some parts of the website are not yet fully accessible. The main issues include:

  • Missing or unclear alt text;
  • Missing or unclear ARIA labels;
  • No titles on videos and Spotify iframes;
  • Focus not clearly visible in some cases;
  • Issues related to video and audio (subtitles, transcripts, audio description);
  • Invalid heading structure;
  • "News and Stories" block: when tabbing, the left column is navigated before the right, disrupting the chronological order of news items;
  • Several contrast-related issues;
  • Zoom function for artworks does not work with keyboard or assistive software;
  • Carousels are not operable via keyboard or assistive software;
  • Not all link purposes are sufficiently clear;
  • English text appearing on Dutch-language pages;
  • Issues with the Cookiebot plugin;
  • Errors in HTML syntax;
  • Issues with interactive components such as accordions, modals, carousels, etc.;
  • Missing status messages for dynamic content changes.

We aim to resolve these issues over the coming years.
