Catharien Romijn
Catharien Romijn expanded the DSM collection for nearly 25 years, closely following numerous artists. For her, the donation to Heerlen marks the culmination of a remarkable story.

As corporate curator, she visited studios, museums, and fairs, acquired works by regional and international artists, and supported emerging talent. For Romijn, art was always boundary-crossing: from Hadassah Emmerich and Keetje Mans to Shinkichi Tajiri and Bas de Wit. In her view, the collection reflects not only DSM’s core values but also the development of artists and art history itself. That the collection now has a museum future in Heerlen, she sees as a “beautifully complete story” that returns to the community where it began.
