SHIFT – Generation Table

SHIFT stands for movement: for shifting perspectives and for serving the Indo and Moluccan community. From that dual meaning, we create space for a new generation of Indo and Moluccan voices — fresh, outspoken, searching, and powerful.

With SHIFT, we are building a generation table where experiences, stories, and ideas come together. Not to repeat what is already known, but to open the conversation: what does it mean today to be Indo or Moluccan? What do we carry with us in our art, our style, our language — and how do we shape it ourselves?

We explore the influence of the community on art, culture, and music. How does Indo or Moluccan heritage resonate in hip-hop, spoken word, or electronic music? How does our background live on in fashion, tattoos, or design? And how do we engage with larger themes such as intergenerational trauma, creativity as resistance, or the longing for connection?

SHIFT seeks to create space for a new generation of makers, thinkers, dreamers, and doers. With respect for what came before, yet with an open view toward what lies ahead. Whether you are an artist, performer, activist, designer, student, or simply someone with a story to share.

Everyone is welcome at the table — to listen, to speak, and to question. Together, we bring the conversation to life, about where we come from and where we are going.

Hip-Hop & Migration: Indo and Moluccan Influences

What is the influence of the Indo and Moluccan community within Dutch hip-hop culture? Which stories, styles, and concepts are carried across generations — visible in language, clothing, beats, and movement?

In this special edition of SHIFT, we explore how migration, identity, and heritage resonate in hip-hop. We give space to today’s makers, thinkers, and performers, who not only speak but also show how history lives on in creative expression.

Together with three panellists - a producer, artist, and dancer: Joey Geurts (Le Kacang), Martinus Papilaja, and Tyson Ernst - we dive into their personal stories through their favourite hip-hop tracks. What does hip-hop mean to them? And how do they see the influence of the Indo and Moluccan community on the Dutch hip-hop scene?

The panel discussion is part of the Perfect Beat Challenge and will be hosted by Y’skid.
