June is Architecture Month. During national Architecture Day, cities and cultural institutions usually open their doors for tours, lectures, exhibitions, and other activities focused on architecture, design, and the built environment. SCHUNCK also joins this national initiative every year.
This year, SCHUNCK celebrates Architecture Day on 30 July with a special edition for children and families, centred around discovering, building, and designing together.
Living together: Get Creative with architecture
During this edition of Architecture Day, children and their (grand)parents discover together how fun architecture can be. No long lectures, but imagining, drawing, building, and experimenting around the theme of living together.
Through hands-on making and crafting, we explore what a building, playground, or even an entire city might look like if it were specially designed for doing things together. Would you like to invent a city, buildings, or places for children? Or perhaps a new playground structure that requires teamwork? Anything is possible!
Together with children aged 6 and up, we will create our own designs. We begin with a short tour of the building, followed by sketching and building. Finally, we present all the new ideas and celebrate our creations together.
About Architecture Day
Architecture Day is for everyone interested in architecture and urban development. Since 1986, it has grown into a nationwide event attracting large numbers of visitors. Many towns and cities open special buildings to the public and offer programmes featuring lectures, debates, exhibitions, films, and excursions. Each city or region gives the programme its own local interpretation.
Theme: the supportive society
With the theme 'The Supportive Society', Architecture Day 2026 focuses on shaping collective spaces. Sports clubs, community gardens, churches, schools, and swimming pools — all places where you meet people you did not know before. People who do not necessarily have to become your friends, but whom you know you can turn to when needed. Because only when you stand up for someone else’s rights, happiness, or safety do you know that someone would do the same for you.
Architecture and a resilient living environment
When disaster strikes, we can close our windows and doors and wait by the emergency radio for instructions. Or we can invest now in a resilient living environment: one built around people you can rely on, places where people enjoy coming together, and structures that contribute to equal opportunities and rights. All of these places are designed — by architects, landscape architects, and urban planners, as well as by communities themselves.
This year, Architecture Day takes place at a different time than usual, with a special programme for children and families.
