Manager of The Velvet Underground

Warhol was manager of The Velvet Underground from 1965-1967, during which time he also added singer and model Nico to the band. Warhol designed the album cover of the debut album, the iconic yellow banana on a snow-white background. It became one of the most recognisable and influential designs in the history of pop culture and art.

Bettie Serveert, one of the Netherlands' best ever indie rock bands, will play a unique concert on 7 March in which they will play two sets: one consists of their favourite Velvet Underground songs, complemented by a selection of their own songs.

Bettie Serveert

Bettie Serveert was formed in Amsterdam in the early 1990s by Carol van Dyk, Peter Visser, Herman Bunskoeke and Berend Dubbe. The band name means was inspired by Dutch tennis player Betty Stöve. Their debut album Palomine (1992) became a huge success and brought them international fame.

In the following years, albums like Lamprey (1995) and Dust Bunnies (1997) followed, touring with artists like Jeff Buckley and Wilco. In 1998, drummer Berend Dubbe left the band and was replaced by Reinier Veldman. The band founded their own label, Palomine Records, in 2000 and released albums such as Private Suit (2000), Log 22 (2003) and Bare Stripped Naked (2006).

After almost 30 years, Bettie Serveert remains active, with recent albums such as Damaged Good (2016). Their music remains diverse, ranging from raw guitar rock to subdued ballads, with influences from their iconic early years. The band is still loved in both the Netherlands and abroad and continues to perform and release new music.
