Bach and Rembrandt are the brilliant creative minds at the beginning of this story. They are the first to give expression to an entirely new sense of life.

Rembrandt and Spinoza, Bach and Ingres, Stravinsky and Einstein - these are just some of the many great names in modern cultural history. They represent a world that, with all its achievements, constantly oscillated between euphoria and doubt, between the excitement of the new and the sorrow for what was lost.

Beginning in the 17th century and ending in the 20th, 'De vleugels van de vrijheid', spread over six performances, portrays three centuries of modern times as a grand and exciting, but equally dramatic and sometimes dark story.

Jan Ezendam plays the piano and talks about the work of the great composers. Ko van Dun connects with the story of art and outlines the broader cultural-historical context.

The performance lasts from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with an intermission at 4:00 p.m.
