Spira Mirabilis
Dutch premiere of a special Italian masterpiece!
A Japanese researcher studies the endless life cycle of a jellyfish. Native Americans from the United States bury a man who fought for their rights. Italian restorers work on preserving the Milan Cathedral. Two Swiss inventors search for the perfect pitch of their metal musical instrument, the handpan. Filmed in four different locations around the world, the documentary *Spira Mirabilis* explores the human obsession with immortality.
Those who began building the Milan Cathedral must have been aware from the start that one lifetime would not be enough to see the work completed. Shin Kubota shows us that his small immortal jellyfish can live, die, and be reborn a dozen times. The invention and ongoing research into a new musical instrument will likely outlast the lives of its inventors.
The Lakota tribe feels the need to resist and defend their own culture against other dominant civilizations. Each story in Spira Mirabilis deals with the awareness of human limitations and the desire to overcome them. As a visual symphony, this unique documentary tells multiple stories about immortality.
You will see Spira Mirabilis with English subtitles.
