Learn all about one of the most beautiful compositions ever written: Bach's Cello Suites! Why do cellists consider this music a kind of Bible? And why do choreographers often draw inspiration from it for solos or duets? A suite is, of course, a ‘collection of dances,’ but when Bach wrote them between 1717 and 1723, it was no longer meant for dancing. It had become concert music. Today, experienced choreographers like Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and Saburo Teshigawara are once again seeking a beautifully pure response in dance. During this masterclass, music historian Tijmen Wehlburg and dance critic Annette Embrechts will guide you through a ‘heavenly garden’ of music and dance!
