MODULE #5 Irene Fresh

Irene Fresh is an artist and graffiti writer from Spain who recently moved to the Netherlands. She began her artistic career in 2004 with graffiti, gradually developing her own distinctive visual language through letters, shapes and colour. Over time, graffiti became a way for her to spread love and positivity.

After more than eighteen years of leaving her graffiti across the world, she began combining her graffiti background with figurative work. This resulted in a unique visual language in which bright neon colours and bold linework come together in collages, cut-outs, rugs, flags and sculptures. A striking element of her work is the use of slogans, which invite viewers to reflect, ask questions, engage in self-exploration and embrace transformation. Her work serves as a gateway to her inner world and universe, where psychedelia, mysticism, graffiti and nostalgia converge.

For MODULE #5, Irene Fresh delved into the history of Heerlen and translated her perspective on the city into a new collage.

Live during IBE

On 7 and 8 August, Irene Fresh will create the work live on the MODULE wall during IBE. Visitors are invited to witness the creative process up close. The presentation will remain on view until 4 October 2026.

About MODULE

Together with Kool Cult and Robin Vermeulen, intendant-curator of public art in Heerlen, SCHUNCK launches a new way of working in public space. The project is part of ArtBase, a national pilot programme aimed at strengthening regional contemporary art.

MODULE is a movable panel measuring 2.5 by 6 metres, on which (semi-)permanent art interventions appear: graffiti, street art, and other forms of independent, temporary visual language — visible in the city without losing its ephemeral character. Each edition features new work by a different artist.
