What happens when art and care meet? SCHUNCK and Sevagram Verwenzorg explored this together in the project Unforgettable experiences with art. Inspired by the exhibition Andy Warhol: Vanitas, residents from five Sevagram care locations in Heerlen – Douvenrade, Ter Eyck, Molenpark, Oranjehof, and De Regenboog – worked alongside their families and caregivers to create their own artistic pieces.
Art as a connecting force
During a series of workshops, artworks were created that not only referenced Warhol’s themes of transience and memory, but also the personal stories and emotions of the participants. The creative sessions provided space for encounters, reflection, and the sharing of memories.
The results will be on display from 16 to 18 April in a pop-up presentation in the central hall of SCHUNCK. The festive opening will take place on Wednesday, 16 April at 14:30, and will be conducted by Marco Peters, alderman for Elderly Policy in the municipality of Heerlen.
Dementia-friendly society
The project contributes to a dementia-friendly society, where art serves as a means of connection, expression, and meaning – regardless of age or cognitive health.
