Their performance is dedicated to the transformation from human to tree. They create an environment where sensory stimuli are rare, giving the audience space to breathe. In that space, questions arise that are normally lost. What drives someone to exchange the human existence for something else?

Ika Schwander

Ika Schwander graduated in 2023 from the performance program at Toneelacademie Maastricht. She creates visual performances and prefers to work at the intersection of different disciplines. In her work, she explores concepts related to trauma, care, ecology, and death.

Fran Hayes

Multimedia artist Fran Hayes explores the relationships that arise in the spaces between the digital and the physical. She blends influences from science fiction with current issues such as environmental degradation and the impacts of capitalism. Her work ranges from 3D modeling and animation to ceramics and writing.

In the coming years, Ika will focus on creating work in which she always collaborates with others (both actors and non-actors) on the floor. The goal is to present an encounter where a contrast is always present. For these projects, she draws from sources that personally affect her, focusing on vulnerable subjects such as chronic pain, femicide, sexual abuse, and suicide. She is always seeking ways to connect the past with the present and to blend fiction with non-fiction.

Creation: Ika Schwander and Fran Hayes.
