From great heights, our view extends further, allowing us to examine the city from a different perspective.
Through storytelling and unique sounds, Mike Kramer takes you on a journey through the history, origins, and even some secrets hidden within Heerlen and its surroundings. Sometimes told from a historical perspective, other times through a more poetic lens, you will gain richer insights into special places that you might normally pass by without notice.
Sound artist Mike Kramer invites his listeners to get to know their surroundings (better) through electronic music, field recordings, and sound installations. In 2018, he created the sound walk Heerlen Gehoor(d). In 2019, he presented a radio play to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Limburg. In 2021 and 2023, he followed up with the sound walks Verstild and Versteend. All productions were experienced during Cultura Nova. In his work, Mike uses field recordings; realistic sounds captured from places such as rooftops, hidden niches, air ducts, underwater worlds, the clockwork of a church bell, city noise, and more. He incorporates these sounds into his productions in an artistic manner.
For this sound walk, we recommend wearing sturdy walking shoes. Whether it's sunny or raining, please dress appropriately. If you have a fear of heights or have mobility issues, email mikekramer@home.nl to discuss the possibilities.
Please note: The walk starts on the Rooftop above Q-park Putgraaf Heerlen (entrance from Plaarstraat).
PANORAMIC VIEWS is a co-production with Festival Cultura Nova. Tickets are available for purchase online through Parkstad Limburg Theaters.
