What is The selection of Taalhuis?

The Selection of... is a recurring programme in the SCHUNCK Art Depot, in which someone makes a selection from the collection based on their personal perspective. This time, seven participants from the Taalhuis have come together to present their selection.

During a series of meetings, they explored the SCHUNCK collection in depth. By looking, discussing and comparing, they gradually arrived at a joint selection. After a visit to the Art Depot, they made their final choices.

The selected works reflect both the diversity of the collection and that of the participants themselves. Landscapes, portraits, female figures, photography and a woodcut come together to form a varied whole.

Each participant brings their own background, interests and artistic experience. Some paint, others work in three dimensions or have their own studio. What they have in common is an interest in art and a desire to further develop their Dutch language skills. They come from different countries and cultures, but found common ground through conversation, imagination and a sense of wonder.

This exhibition shows how art and language can bring people together and open up new perspectives.

The participants’ personal stories will soon appear in an accompanying booklet.
