In her research, Gulikers delved into the representation of musicians in the history of painting and music. Gulikers noticed that female figures almost always play a supporting role in the depicted events, the roles as a caring woman (Mary in the biblical stories) and as a sinner (Eve and Mary Magdalene) being the two most common. In her mural, Gulikers chooses to give women from the history of art and music no longer a supporting role, but a leading role, in which they are central as independent individuals.
