Visual Vinyl is a major exhibition on the phenomenon of artists' records. Be amazed by rare LPs, singles and other vinyl objects.
four decades of records and covers
From more than a hundred artists, records and sleeves from four decades are on display, whether or not designed in collaboration with (pop) musicians. Insight is given on how artists have used the various possibilities of the vinyl record as a medium in recent decades. The exhibition casts an unexpected and - often literally - unheard look at the artist in question. At the same time, the exhibition aims to provide insight into a little-exposed part of (pop) music and visual art history from the 1950s to the present; the vinyl record!

Special specimens
In addition to museum editions on vinyl by Joseph Beuys, Hermann Nitsch, Doug Aitken and Sarah Lucas, among others, there is an LP on display (including a lithograph) and to be heard with electronic music made by Karel Appel. But there are also signed albums by William Burroughs and parts of the sixties art magazine 'Aspen', with accompanying plastic gramophone records (flexidiscs) on which you can hear music by Velvet Underground, Morton Feldman and LaMonte Young, among others.
Famous names
Of course, the famous records of artist Andy Warhol are also on display. His LPs for Velvet Underground and Rolling Stones are on display, as well as Jean-Michel Basquiat's design for Rammellzee and K-Bop. Other famous names whose work is on display include Salvador Dali, Damien Hirst, Shepard Fairey, Banksy, Mark Ryden and all the record covers drawn by Raymond Pettibon. But relatively new records such as Lady Gaga's album "Artpop" is also part of the collection, with design by Jeff Koons.
In short, Visual Vinyl is a tribute to the LP as an audiovisual work of art!
