Housed in a new building designed by architect Jo Coenen, exhibitions were presented and art collections managed in a museum setting on the so-called “Black Field”.

Development of the Black Field

In this edition of the Young Heritage Cabinet, SCHUNCK presents a collage-style overview of the development of the Black Field, tracing its transformation from an unremarkable car park into the envisioned “musical centre” complete with a museum for the city. Both the architectural design of the building and the realisation of artworks in public space played a crucial role in this transformation.

Collection works

Running parallel to this edition, works from the collection dating from the same period are on view in SCHUNCK’s Art Depot. From 21 April to 17 May 2026, the Atrium in the museum space is also dedicated to the origins of the museum.
