Today was the day: the exhibition ‘Andy Warhol: Vanitas’ was officially opened in a private ceremony.

The afternoon kicked off with a musical performance by the band Bettie Serveert, who paid tribute to the repertoire of The Velvet Underground – the band known for its iconic cover art by Andy Warhol (think: the banana on the ‘Nico’ album) and also managed by him.

Kor Bonnema, Director of SCHUNCK, welcomed the guests, and Leon Verdonschot took over the stage as moderator to interview Fabian de Kloe, Artistic Director of SCHUNCK Museum, and Patrick Moore, Emeritus Director of The Andy Warhol Museum.

Hadassah Emmerich

After a short musical interlude, Leon asked insightful questions about the exhibition Batik Moon Rising to artist Hadassah Emmerich, who is also opening a new exhibition at SCHUNCK, and Cynthia Jordens, senior curator at SCHUNCK – Museum. Bettie Serveert took over with a musical performance, after which Jordy Clemens, Alderman of Culture for the Municipality of Heerlen, and Jasper Kuntzelaers, Deputy for the Province of Limburg, officially opened the exhibitions of both Andy Warhol and Hadassah Emmerich.

Visitors and guests were amazed as they toured the museum hall, the art depot, and the Atrium. In the art depot, three new exhibitions were also opened simultaneously. Starting tomorrow, Sunday, September 15th, the exhibitions will be open to the public.

Many thanks to our partners and sponsors for making Andy Warhol: Vanitas possible.
