Andy Warhol: Vanitas is heading to Pittsburgh!
Last chance, only four weeks left to see it in Heerlen!
As SCHUNCK experts know, we aim to tell a new story with every exhibition and artist. This is also true for Andy Warhol, one of the icons of 'pop art.' In close collaboration with The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Andy Warhol: Vanitas was curated. While inspired by the Revelation exhibition, it certainly has its own character and approach. Vanitas builds on the themes of spirituality, vanity, transience, and death—themes that also played a role in Warhol's (private) life.
Gezinsrondleiding Andy Warhol: Vanitas bij SCHUNCK Museum
More than 120 works and objects provide an insight into Warhol’s life and art. Warhol was at home in the world of stars and fame, but he also struggled with its downside. He was aware of the transience of beauty and the emptiness of existence. He tried to influence and flirt with it. Vanitas showcases both well-known and lesser-known works, even some rarely displayed, revealing a different, more vulnerable side of Warhol. It also demonstrates that Warhol was ahead of his time. While selfies and videos seem normal to us today, they were not in the seventies, when Warhol was already experimenting extensively with them.
Due to the unique approach of Andy Warhol: Vanitas, The Andy Warhol Museum has decided to present the exhibition, as seen at SCHUNCK Museum, in Pittsburgh as well. We are incredibly proud of this. More details will follow later this year.

Andy Warhol: Vanitas is only on display for a short time in Heerlen. After Sunday, 16 March, this special exhibition will close. The images below provide an impression of the exhibition, which, despite its themes, is suitable for both young and old. We wouldn’t want you to miss the following reviews.
"Andy Warhol: Vanitas is a surprising exhibition."
"With Vanitas, you are presented with an unexpectedly sober yet exceptionally aesthetic interpretation of Warhol. It offers a renewed perspective on the life and work of the world-renowned artist."
"Deceptive superficiality: vanity and faith in Andy Warhol."
"Ultimately, Warhol proved to be more than just the king of pop art and the portrayer of stars – he also became an artist who dared to face the downside of fame and mortality."
