Freedom is not something you simply celebrate. It is something you make space for.

That is exactly what we did at SCHUNCK on Tuesday 5 May. With a festive dinner in which every course brought not only something delicious to the table, but also something to listen to, to look at, and to reflect on.

After the first course, participants from the Writing Workshop took the floor. These writers, all with refugee or migration backgrounds, shared their own texts with the audience. The stories resonated, people listened, and for a moment the room seemed larger than it already was.

The second course followed the readings. Then came the music. The string ensemble took over with cello, violin, viola, and double bass. Four voices, four instruments, one sound filling the room. The music lingered long after the final note had faded.

For dessert, we left the tables and moved into the museum. Because why end an evening like this in an ordinary way? What could be better than being surrounded by art with dessert in hand?
