It is with sadness that we have received news of the death of photographer Bertien van Manen (The Hague, 1935). In her photography, Van Manen captured people in their personal environment in an unpolished manner.
Her work has been exhibited worldwide in museums including Museum of Modern Art in New York, Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, FOAM Amsterdam, FoMu Antwerp and Fotomuseum Winterthur. At SCHUNCK in 2023, we had the honour and pleasure of working with Bertien to create the exhibition and publication of the same name Gluckauf.
We got to know her as a warm and committed person. Our thoughts are with her family, friends. We hold Bertien in our hearts.
