Passaasj Parkstad opens: 100 artists on the meaning of home
On Sunday 19 April 2026, the exhibition Passaasj Parkstad was officially opened at SCHUNCK Glaspaleis. One hundred artists from the region present work around one central question: what does home mean to you? The exhibition runs until 17 May 2026.
The opening on Sunday 19 April drew a large group of visitors and participating artists, many of whom saw their own work hanging in the Glaspaleis for the first time.
100 selected works from more than 475 submissions
With Passaasj Parkstad, SCHUNCK Museum opens its doors to the creative energy of the region. Anyone who considers themselves an artist or designer was invited to submit a work through an open call. An independent selection committee then chose 100 works from more than 475 submissions for the final exhibition.
What does home mean to you?
The exhibition brings together personal stories from makers across the region: young and old, self-taught and established artists, those born and raised in Heerlen and those with roots elsewhere in the world. Their works offer a range of answers to a universal question: what does home mean to you? A sense of safety and longing, desire and loss, the quiet of a familiar place and the restlessness of those yet to find a home, it all comes together in Passaasj Parkstad.
"SCHUNCK Museum has always been a home for art and artists from the region. During our 40th anniversary, we want to celebrate that sense of connection by literally opening our doors to makers from Heerlen, Parkstad and all of Limburg. This is their stage, right in the heart of the Glaspaleis." Fabian de Kloe, Artistic Director SCHUNCK Museum
