The 'modern' Glaspaleis is a modernist building in the city centre of Heerlen. Formerly a fashion house and department store it has a long history and tells the whole story of the city of Heerlen.

The Glaspaleis in which SCHUNCK is not just an ordinary building. Apart form it's extraordinary architecture, this modernist building tells the story of Heerlen and the Parkstad region. The Glaspaleis reflects the history of the city; the growth of Heerlen, the wealth because of the mines, the rise of modernist buildings, the life of the shoppers  at the Schunck department store, but also the closure of the mines and the demise of Heerlen.

During a tour through this special building, a museum teacher will take you through it's special history. You will learn about the vision and ambition behind the design and gain insight into the past and present.
