SCHUNCK has Limburg's oldest public contemporary art collection, which makes the cellars of the Glaspaleis burst at the seams. Some of the objects must now be stored at an external location due to lack of space. A pity, because the art collection contains more than 1100 objects, each worth looking at. Among them are masterpieces by Armando, Karel Appel, Marlene Dumas, Rob Scholte and Rob van Koningsbruggen, but also by well-known Limburg artists such as Charles Eyck, Ger Lataster, Jef Diederen, Lei Molin and Fransje Killaars. SCHUNCK also has an important part of the artistic legacy of Aad de Haas in its collection.

The Art Depot not only frees up more storage space, but at the same time also provides a way to view all these works.

SCHUNCK and the city

SCHUNCK receives some 250,000 visitors a year in the Glaspaleis, of which 40,000 are museum visitors. People enjoy the special architecture of the building, the high-profile exhibitions and a wide library and course offerings in music and dance. Visitors are regularly surprised by the beauty and diversity of the museum's urban collection. SCHUNCK aims to let as many people as possible enjoy this and thus offer them the broadest possible cultural experience. In the museum at -1 (museum gallery) of the Glaspaleis large themed and collection exhibitions are continuously on display.

The field of activity of the SCHUNCK Museum is not limited to the museum gallery. There is always something to see or experience in various places in the SCHUNCK Glaspaleis. In the 30-metre-long store window at the front of the Glaspaleis, there are continuous presentations. On the balcony in the central hall and on the first floor there are also presentations, and in the staircase there are changing murals by contemporary artists. Everything outside the museum gallery is completely free of charge and freely accessible to everyone. We use as many opportunities as possible to build a bridge with the city. Positive experience, easy accessibility and accessibility are central to us. A good example is the project 'David Bade tekent Heerlen onder de tafel', in which Bade has committed his life to Heerlen and regularly returns to make portraits of Heerlen citizens, in a changing setting but always in the city.
