One Tower - Experience, Live, Work. FH Aachen (Germany)
Planned here is a tower, which features room for shopping, gastronomy, wellness / fitness and leisure time in addition to habitation and working. The major part thereby is the habitation-area, which should be reflected in the design of the building. The tower should not have a pure industry-character. To give consideration to the industry-part a combination of steel-/glass- and perforated facade was chosen.
The top floor of the building is designed as a storey of glass and serves as an ideal lookout point, which should be open to public. Therefore the concept provides the opportunity to reach the top floor on foot. On your way up you will be able to relax in 7 different skygardens, or stop your march and use the elevator. Possibilities for these skygardens would be e.g.: an internet-café, kiosk, youth centre, ice cream parlour, two-storied library, gym, etc.
The staircase is at the same time the creative element of the concept, since it winds spirally like a band around a square, recoiling inner core, which seems to be entirely made out of glass. These two different kinds of cladding demonstrate the private and industrial part of the building. The staircase with its public traffic just takes course around glass-claddings with public use, and the closed part with private use is respectively on the opposing side. This way a from bottom-up rotating ground-plan-structure develops, at which the core of the building is designed for every storey in a way that private and public traffic only meet in the elevator vestibule, but not in the hall.
Three different types of habitations are offered, from 75 m2 up to 135 m2 living area. Each type of habitation has an assigned loggia as well as a generous utility room, which offers the claimed storage- and basement-space inside the apartment.
