a spacial system for a retail space (organic food market) had to be developed to react to different site conditions: rural, suburban and urban building sites.
This project decomposes the basic functions of a supermarket (service + storage, retail space, additional retail/bakery) and rearranges them around a “central square”. The volumes can be arranged in multiple ways to react to a specific site. The size of the retail space depends on site and trading area: from small stores in rural conditions to extra-large urban supermarkets, 4 different building sizes are implemented: s / m / l / xl.
The storage area and additional retail space are scaled according to the market size and customer frequency.
The basic elements of the building are structure and shell. The structure is designed as a timber frame on a 62.5cm module, resulting in a 2.5m span. The shell is made of horizontal larch wood shuttering, partly covering also the windows and emphasising the cubical shape.
a glass cube connects the main volumes, forming the central square of the “BIOASE” and providing access to each of the volumes. The supermarket can be separated from the lobby by metal blinds, allowing the café/bakery to run separate opening hours.
The retail area is structured by several built-in green boxes containing the different food departments.
The service volume contains customer facilities, staff rooms, office, storage and HVACR equipment.
