The terrace grounds of the Castlegarden Bazaar dating from the 19. century are located in the historic environment of the Budapest Castle Hill. Built by Miklós Ybl, he decided to create a plateau with numerous shops and pavilions along a promenade, and a pathway leading to the Castle. Due to its obsolete condition the protected promenade remained closed for the past 20 years.

Urban planning activities with adverse effects taking place during the past decades led to the degradation of the Castlegarden Bazaar.. The aim of this thesis is to contribute with the help of architectural measures to reestablish its connections to the Castle, so that the Castlegarden Bazaar becomes a cultural meeting point of the Buda Castle Hill. The external structures are closely linked to the project.

The projected premises are situated at a sensitive location and constitute an integral part of the city panorama. The projected structure aims to supplement the existing historic buildings and do not intend to compete with them.

Therefore the planned height of the new building will not exceed significantly the height of the existing structures.

The horizontal alignment of the Castlegarden Bazaar remained unchanged. All parts of the building follow the same arrangement, they are parallel with the already existing castle garden premises ( terrace-like terrain features).

The original layout of the terrain remained unchanged and the individual parts of the building will be arranged as tiers. Significant parts of the new structure will be placed below the surface, so that the dimensions of building will seem to be much smaller than in reality. Sufficent illumination is provided by inner courts. The project integrates existing features, for example the ramp-like design of the pathways.
The newly designed promenade will guide the visitor to the different parts of the building and will bring him directly to the Buda Castle area.

The different parts of the building will enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
