input + output

At the Bassin de la Villette in Paris arises with the Centre de l´avantgarderobe a place that offers jung fashion designers all presuppositions to design fashion in an experimental process and at the same time to present and sell their collection with efficient publicity. This process of fashion development is put together of two superior parts of room programs which intermesh and imply eachother, but are in need of different levels of publicity. The introvertiv function - the input - which implies the whole creative work and ensures an undisturbed working process, and the extrovertiv function - the output - which assembles all publicity aspects, are being kept spacially separated: the input is lifted from the ground level, the output is digged into the existing ground volume.

Broken symmetry

The oblonging building complex together with the skyscraper in the north-west and the historical magazine at the other riverside create an interesting ensemble of cityplanning which stresses the broken symmetry that has been developed out of plenty of reconstructions over the last years. The building marks the ending point of the bassin and stimulates a location with strong urban potential.

urban seam

The horizontally splitted body makes the public space floating through, joins the walking movement along the basin and catches the attention of the strolling on its inner life. This 3D-seam is sculpted by the spacial expansion of the input and output area. The urban space is becoming the turning point of the building complex.

permeabilities

The entire volume is developed out of levels, floating spaces and a double layered façade, which allows an individually adjusted permeability from inside to outside. The building pictures the inner actions through a play of transparency and translucency to the outside and becomes a 3D-sign in the surrounding urban space.
