(D’N) KOEL OP UT DAẤK

The Heerlen Rooftop Project ‘(D’n) Koel op ut Daấk’ is a project designed by Roel Schiffers. The proposal aims to rejuvenate Heerlen´s mining heritage by proposing a literal framework of charred wooden frames that create new, permanent and temporary, conditions on the rooftops. For temporary installations of pavilions, staircases, connections between different rooftops in the shape of bridges or small kiosks, the visual family can be adapted and extended indefinitely. The framework therefore functions as a way of branding both the centre of Heerlen and the Rooftop Festival. The framework has the potential to function year-round, making the best use of a temporary festival to improve the quality and reputation of the city centre way beyond the short timespan of the festival.
