In 1907, the Jewish part of the City of Prague passed through the redevelopment, probably for hygienic reason. The large structure of the city at that time was replaced by a block development. According to Paris, there was established –the boulevard. The boulevard leads from Oldtown square to the Vltava river. In 1908, this clear axis was lengthened thanks to building of a new bridge. A few years later, several architects contested the completing of the axis. Some of them proposed that dominant should be at the hillside just behind the new bridge, others lengthened the axis further on, through the Létna plain. Altogether they engaged in the way of full-valuable completing the boulevard. But none of those proposals was realized.
After the Second World War, Prague was the part of the eastern block. The people in the city decided to build the memorial to Stalin at that place. However, 10 years later it was destroyed. The base of the memorial has been used as an observation point up to the present day.
The new building of the national library is to be built in Prague. The are behind the Letná plain was chosen for this purpose. I myself find such decision bad. Therefore I suggest:
- new national library on the slope instead of behind the Letná plain as planned. The library should be directed to the town centre
- the new building should be meaningful to the town as well as to the Letná park
- saving the base of the former memorial
- building the way joining Old Town and Letná plain
- urban completing the axis by building the library
- disappearing of the axis inside of the library, in deep of knowledge, in archives
- symbolic value of the library like „FONS SAPIENTIAE“
