Concours Porto Vivo site Alfandega. ISA Saint-Luc Liège (Belgium)
The final project for the students in the 5th year of architecture was proposed in the framework of Porto Vivo-OPORTO,PORTUGAL. Several sites have been proposed including the Alfandega, site located between the district of Miragaia and the Douro. On this site is the former Porto customs building that is currently occupied by the transport museum.
The challenge on this site was to recreate relations between the former district and the Douro, to walk along the Douro, to work on the construction of a marina, siting a restaurant and a museum of arts of Oporto. The choice of location of different functions and that intervention at the relief site was dictated by the analysis of it. The building of the Alfandega, by imposing its dimensions, should be retained in the program.
We worked on different sequences of the ballad and put a visual scene that makes us discover the Alfandega.
The first sequence as a beginning space located in an important green surface where the customs building appeares through the foliage of trees. This atmosphere offeres to groups and visitors a shade space significant in Portugal.
The second sequence was the building of the Alfandega itself where a job enhancement of the facade of the cellars as well as its structure is given to visitors by the location of the restaurant in a part of the caves.
The third intervention is the museum with a roof becoming sometimes walk, sometimes terrace, that relates the space between the top and bottom of the site. The visitors discover the existing relations and the arts of Oporto as consecutive sequences.
The last sequence is that of the port and the sailing school located in a bend of the Douro as to create a point of view and an area of protection on the site.
