UPRIGHT AT THE ALSTERFLEET

Urban living in a network
The residential high rise offers attractive living space for young professionals in downtown Hamburg. The multi-story building as a concentrated urban space and its inhabitants form a social micro-network. The building is a landmark in the urban macro-network.

Urbanistic connector and point of reference
The site is located at the connection of "Binnenalster" and "Elbe". A high rise as an urban landmark is able to link city centre and harbour.
The monolithic structure is subdivided into plinth and tower, however they read as a unit. The plinth relates to the surrounding buildings and preserves the view onto the facade of the fire watch. The long side of the tower is parallel to the "Alsterfleet" and points out the connection between "Elbe" and "Alster". Its long range effect as a point of reference achieves different proportions depending on the postion.
The facade is red concrete referring to the traditional hanseatic brickwork. The punctuated facade runs equally around the building. The window openings enable full-length glazing as well as windows with deep reveal and the function of a bench.

Living on 34 levels
The typology of the floor plan responds to the specified residential use. Synergies are created by connecting households to living communities. Areas for common use are generated.
A sequence of common rooms surrounds the private space. The single rooms are closed elements in the open floor plan.
The microcosm apartment is completed by a roof garden, which can be used by all residents of the house. In the upper rooms of the tower there is also a restaurant including a bar. For residents as well as non-residents, there will be fitness and wellness facilities provided on floor 06 and 07. The house will not only be attractive for residents, but also for inhabitants of Hamburg.
