CULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE TIVOLI . ISA Saint-Luc Liège (Belgium)
The establishment of cultural functions in the heart of the city of Liège raises questions on how to integrate a contemporary building in a strong historical context and how to give back life to a city centre that has difficulty finding an identity.
Beyond the construction of a cultural building the project becomes an urban infrastructure where cultural functions and urban circuits seamlessly intertwine.
This proximity allows a truly flexible use of functions and public spaces. In a certain way these public spaces create an environment around their internal functions and are extensions and antechambers at the same time.
Circulation within the building is then no longer an ‘indoor circuit’ but is continually connected to the existing urban networks.
In the same way, the building is axed on the principle of dispatching of people and information. It is precisely this dispatching that makes the infrastructure a focal point where people and information converge and diverge at the same time. A lung in the heart of Liège.
