Coronmeuse. ISA Saint-Luc Liège (Belgium)
Our design approach is based on two intention :
1-create a strong link between the Coronmeuse’s « presque’île » and the surrounding (workers) industrial area.
2-Assess the value of the skyline as the main view from the motorway located on the other site of the river « Meuse ».
To do so, We’ve imagined a square restricted to pedestrian use and public transport. The space created is more a link between different urban functions, actually separated by a roundabout than a real meeting space.
+ Mixed used building housing an hotel and offices
We’ve located this building to offer a limit to the public space and also to separate this space from the parking area. Theis building house in his basement a speedway and the main entrance to the parking.
+ The theatre’s design
- Respect and magnify the last remaining building of the universal exhibition held in Liège in 1939. To improve the building appearance and simplicity, we’ve replaced the unnecessary extensions by two distinct volumes housing staircases and technical spaces.
- Do not alter the lobby’s original feature and protect its historical substance as the space created an its architecture are a strong link with the glorious past of the city.
+ The halle aux foires – covered market brings a strong design element much quieter than the extremly busy background. As the very first building in line, its mass allows to discover progressively the remaining part of the site. The design take in account a commercial logic, attracting the visitors directly to the stalls. In order to merge as much as we can the building in its industrial context marked mainly by disused industrial site and mining heaps, We’ve imagined extremly simple volumes.
