Seven urban farming rooftops, each with a specific program
The Heerlen Rooftop Project In the Loop is designed by Maikel Waterdrinker & Soledad Fernández, Monsserat Muñoz, Hiram Guzman. The project consists of seven urban farming rooftops, each with a specific program. In the regenerative approach urban farming suits well with biomass production, as organic waste is used as compost to create energy and fertilize crops. Energy-efficiency can also be gained by the reduction of transport distances. For the urban heat stress, urban agriculture helps to increase the absorption capacity of rainwater and attracts biodiversity. Furthermore it offers a great educational and recreational value for the city centre.
