Pompei’s infrastructure entrance
A management of the facilities at the root of the project was necessary: moving of the station, diversion of the highway, creation of a parking place and of a footbridge,…in order to guide the people, while decreasing the impact of cars.
Coming by bus or from the park outlying the archaeological site, the users will go first through the public square of the welcome building trade.
This building is situated between the RER and a mound of vegetation that it will bypass to finally form an “L” and to turn to the entry of the site.
The entry hall around 11 meters high allows to understand visually the proposed stratification.
From the square (at an altitude of 12 meters), we can find duties available for the general public (compartments, booking offices, toilets…).
The second level (level 17) can be reached by wide stair and a banister but also through the footbridge coming from the “intermodale” station and is specially dedicated to the people wishing to go and see the antique town (information center, tickets center, booking of tourist guides,…).
One half level (level 20) is reserved for one side for the staff and for the other side for the infirmary and the day nursery.
To end, the roof terrace (level 23) with its various rest areas, its tiers, its terrace of the cafeteria of the Interpretation Center and its duties lodged in such as snack, bookshop and rest rooms for the staff, make its identity that wants to be attractive; for that, an access is possible from the mount of vegetation.
Note also that it covers but does not close the space it accommodates. The rain and the wind come in as they want, we cannot walk around this building, it is a compulsory way, like a filter…
