Our project is a response to the complexity of the program launched by the town of Prague for the realization of the national library.

From the city to the project :

Because of our analysis of Prague, and in particular on the transitions in the heights.
Because we don’t see the interest to create a rupture between the construction and the shape of the city.
Because the simple justification to see and to be seen did not appear to us to be a sufficient reason.
Because a library wants to be on the scale of the city should neither oppress, nor to crush it.
This “new born” Nation, in search of identity, must take roots in its knowledge to go forward and to not support it like a burden.
Because of the contradictory will that a library should be at the same time closed and opened.
Because of the contagion which makes the elements much more interesting, when the park contaminates the esplanade, the esplanade the park,…

Here is a serie of elements which determines our thought, our concept, the general organization.
A public esplanade, which is a piece of the city, is stuck between the two great parts of the library. Keeping in mind that the building is a whole.

General organization :

- Open references, shelves then reading rooms.
- The public records part and parliamentary library open on an interior court which holds the tree of the knowledge (perhaps an apple tree).
- Public spaces.
- A mezzanine stage welcomes the management of the collection.
- A stage hosts the acquisitions (close to the dock with many vacancies), and the care which is close to the stocks and the dock.
- An underground parking and stocks,
