The project is located in Gent near the “Ketelvest”, a part of the river called “Leie”, in the street called “Ketelvaart”. Next to the water, a strip of 200 meters by 10 meters, has been formed naturally.
There is a large potential in this area due to its urban location. This area, which is on a crossroad of two important roads, is the perfect location for people to relax and enjoy themselves. This area is almost considered as a place of piece and quiet, a place of well-being between those two main roads.
It should be a place where artists and all different kinds of creative people come together to work, to live there and most importantly, to communicate with visitors or people passing by. Therefore it was necessarily to create a place which attracts visitors as well as artists.
The challenge consisted of creating a place, where everybody was drawn too when looking at the architecture.

Meanwhile, the artists are stimulated and inspired by this environment of the Ketelvaart and the city of Gent. Everybody will enjoy the work that is going on, or will learn from it.
The visitors or the people passing by will be able to watch the artists while working or will be able to admire their work in the atelier or exhibition. They can gather all kinds of information in the library, as well as enjoying this peaceful place next to the water, where street-level and water are communicating with each other by a flow of different experiences.

This dialogue is translated into a kind of skin which performs different functions and which ensures the game between street-level and quay. By doing this, an area has been risen where an on-going game takes place; a game of showing, a game of looking, experiencing and enjoying.
