Less building, more people
The Heerlen Rooftop Project ‘Less building more people. A festival with a legacy’ is a design by TomDavid Architecten.
‘In a shrinking city, the strategy of partial subtraction can be a useful one incentive for urban improvement. The undensified upper layer literally opens up unattractive or vacant space in order to invite people to stay, to experience the liberated space, to enjoy the view and to meet other people. An exciting rooftop landscape will unfold to the city, with a diversity of architectural appearances and distinctive programs, making a meaningful contribution to the urban experience and the cities identity.’
”Why add extra volume, when there is more value to gain by removing parts of the existing.”
