Building a sports infrastructurE

The aim of the project is to achieve a sports’ centre on an industrial site in Cheratte. The building is connected to a watersports’ centre. It includes a big sports hall, both a climbing and judo room, a squash area, as well as a cafeteria. Another building is at the disposal of athletes who wish to stay there for a certain period of time. Other outdoor spaces are available for different events such as markets and concerts. The aim of the project is to transform the currently unusable site in an attractive area open to relaxation, sports and pastime while keeping the spirit of the place.
The building is slightly sunken in the ground and uses the natural incline of the site, for it reduces the whole visual impact and allows the realization of terraces and exits at different levels. Thanks to its wide openings, sportspersons and inside visitors can enjoy the beauty of the site; on the other hand, outside visitors can enjoy the beauty of sports. The openings were made according the cycle of the sun in order to avoid any inconvenience during the practice of the sports.
The structure of the building has two levels: the ground floor receives the different visitors and spectators. The shots clearly show that the lower level is dedicated to the practice of the different sports. The one who visits the place for the first time can easily understand the concept of the levels’ structure. Indeed, the organization of the different levels does strengthen the feeling of interaction with the site.
