concept
“River-Nomads” is a concept to use inland waterways for sport and cultural activities. It displays how rivers could become recreation areas in the city centres, without being built upon permanently. Floats will be pushed like barges from town to town. Thereby the potential of mobile architecture can be used in the simplest way.
These floating facilities add to and improve the local facilities for as long as is deemed lucrative
before moving on to the next city. Similar to an itinerant circus, public interest in the facilities will be kept alive by this time element. Another proposal is to connect the floats´ roofs in order to create a public promenade.

prototype: thermal spa
The prototype shown here is designed as a thermal spa. A thermal spa near cologne along the river
Rhine was suggested in the brief. During the transport into another town sluices or ship hoists might have to be passed. Dimensions for shipping on inland waterways are determined by this. To experience the resulting room in its full dimension (loa:104m, width:11,40m), all secondary functions are pushed out of the way as soon asthe spa is in use. For the transport on the other hand these elements are hidden in the main hull again.
Like ships this float is built as a semi-monocoque construction. The whole construction could be
produced in an average shipyard. The character of this ship-construction is also kept in the inside.
The bulkhead stiffeners are visible under the isolation and there are teak wooden decks right to the
edge of the pools.
There are panorama openings to allow a wide view on the river and the opposite bank. The pools are organised along the river. Swimming in the current is possible, too - made save by a cutter.
