Jenseits von Gut und Böse, ein Haus für einen Richter, ein Haus für einen Dichter

In the title “Richter” and “Dichter” relate poetically, suggesting a resemblance and a difference at the same time. “Beyond Good and Evil”, a house for a Judge, a house for a Poet, positions the occupants, within the relationship to one and other in their surroundings. This also results to the positioning and appearance of the architecture, al the way to it’s details and materials.
With this project I interconnect places and spaces in a poetic way. With the aim to embed the architecture and it’s occupants in the surroundings as if they have always been there.
By reviving old and creating new symbols, I give them new meanings related to theme’s of the project. Just like a poet connects things by creating a poem. Or a judge does by arranging the facts and evidence to reveal the truth.
The architectural interventions evolve out of the relationship between occupants, landscape and architecture. They not only cope and reveal the individual character of these three aspects, but inextricable connect them with one and other in an architectural narrative.
Both house / villa’s of “Richter” and “Dichter” are developed with great care and respect for the existing structures and stories existing in the Jekerdal (near Maastricht). Structures like the landscape gardens of chateau Neercanne, local stories about judgment, poetically senses within the landscape. The Villa of the “Richter” is oriented in a formal style, along symbolic axels in the landscape. The villa of the “Dichter” is a informal play of house and pavilions . Both villa’s connect with the landscape by uniting the character of the occupant and the surroundings.
