Situation
In order to run the new aircraft Airbus A380 it is necessary to improve several arrangements of international airports.

The task requires the development of an aircrafthangar for 4 Airbus A380 or 6 Boing 747 at “Frankfurt Rhein/Main” airport.

Position and dimension
The given parcel near “Startbahn Süd” has a plain of nearly 140,000qm. “Rollbahn Süd” connects the site with other areas. The 360m long 110m wide hangar with an entire plain of 55,000qm flanks a 76.000qm movement area. From here it is possible to reach the maintenance arrangements inside the hangar.

The building
The maintenance area is divided into four sections which are used by the A 380. Alternatively it can be splitted into six parts for the boing 747. The shape of the building is adapted to the “nose-in-position” of the A380. Backside the building several workshops are annexed to the maintenance area. 12 office units are elevated onto these concrete constructed workshops. The roof and the two gates are reinforced by two corrugated metal shifts which are orthogonal to each other.

Construction
The 45,000qm large propless maintenance can be opened half the length of the hangar. Therefore the construction concept is an 80m long one-sided cantilever roof which is down to 13 steel pylons.

Doors
The north facade is closed by two 170m long door elements. Every door element can be turned 45 °, this corresponds to an opening height of 27m. Beside the door elements huge gear-rings are fitted to the door leading walls. Each door is moved by two engines running along the gear-rings.
