The Heerlen Rooftop Project ‘Welcome to Heerlen Urban Jungle’ is a design by Bureau Maris & Green Art International.
An ecosystem of new healthy urban life for people, animals and plants is the ambitious design of creative partners Bureau Maris and Green Art International for Heerlen’s rooftops. Besides the current function of the buildings, the rooftops offer a water buffering, cooling and permanent base for growth of diverse vegetation with feasible technology. Perfect to adapt to current climate challenges.
All seven rooftops host permanent activities fitted for the scale of the roof and location within the city. With special events, the rooftops are flexible to change into different hotspots like food, arts and music. Accessibility and spatial connection of the roofs are a major part of the design to enrich the centre and create a variety of opportunities for inhabitants and tourists to explore their own way in the Heerlen Urban Jungle.
