Half ruined marlstone houses, modern warehouses beside centuries old houses, farmhouses with thatched roofs that belong in Twente and far too large building plans for a village such as Gulpen. In my own environment I regularly see building work that concerns me.

In this graduation study plan an initial impression is given regarding how Gulpen could be developed in the future.
Functions and buildings that no longer fulfils the present demands form an important aspect of the further development of Gulpen. By transferring a function to another part of Gulpen a win-win situation can exist.
A place that can be repaired is a square in the centre of Gulpen. Unity is missing and it is an empty place without a clear function. A number of events also threaten to disappear as a result of the lack of charm of this place, among other aspects.

Concept:
• Space for connections to Gulpdal
• Quality improvement of existing catering providers
• Local beer brewery connected to space
• Info point beer brewery connected to VVV Gulpen
• Building of new events hall, connecting hall to festivities space

Win - win:
The social centre near the church no longer fulfils the present needs and is in need of replacement. By building a new hall on the proposed location and connecting it to an events space a win-win situation is created.

Architectural design:
• A deepened added floor surface
• A permanent hall created on a higher set old floor surface
• A movable “hall without a floor” above the square that can provide shelter in various places
• A similarly freely sliding floor over the square that also connects to the old ground surface
Together these 4 elements provide endless spatial variation and create exciting visual forms that allow the possibilities of new phenomena as well as the well known and familiar events.
